Madrid Goalkeeping Tour 2016 Recap

As you may be aware we have just returned from our goalkeeping training camp in Madrid, Spain where 23 Pro-1 goalkeepers and 12 enthusiastic parents attended this year’s camp. From the moment we landed we had a busy schedule, after checking into a fantastic 4-star hotel the keepers aged from 8-13 were whisked off to train with 4 professional Spanish coaches.

The environment was relaxed but full of energy and we couldn’t have asked more of the goalkeepers as they represented the Pro-1 goalkeeping academy with excellent performance and behaviour even though tiredness was kicking in. After a demanding 1st day the goalkeepers were so excited but the excitement wasn’t going to stop there, on the morning of the 2nd day head coach Dean Neil hit everybody with the surprise that they would be training at the Real Madrid training ground with Carlos, head of Real Madrid goalkeeping academy, for 2 days.

The goalkeepers reacted really well to learning different terminologies in goalkeeping, as well as understanding how effective nutrition and hydration is in football. They also got to watch the u18’s train and experience the great facility.

We also noticed a great non-physical skill from the keepers where they were all confident with non-English speaking coaches which often needs a great deal of concentration especially when drills are being explained. It was very interesting for head coach Dean to see how applicants from different learning groups reacted and performed. The course was overall a fantastic learning experience technically and mentally.

I’m very pleased and happy with the reaction of all the goalkeepers, behaviour was exceptional and represented the pro-1 goalkeeping academy with excellence and received many compliments form my partners in Spain, I’d also like to give a special mention to all the parents who respected our approach in giving the lads the best experience . – Dean

We will be hosting another madrid training camp on May 29th -June 1st 2017 which details are now available here.
